Art Reboot

7 acknowledgements Throughout this project two people have sustained, guided and shared the process, both long-term friends and collaborators in creativity. Sean Geer has been with me through several drafts and changes of direction, following the exploration of the ideas involved and offering sound editorial advice throughout. My polymath friend, the artist, musician and author Peter Suart, a sounding board and collaborator on many projects for forty years, took over for the final edit with his usual incisive sum- mation, reducing my manuscript to a third of its length while managing to make it mean more. He then undertook the process of design, production and proofreading. I thank several other close friends who have read various drafts and who, often somewhat puzzled, were kind enough to remain eloquently silent or to let me know they weren’t quite sure what I was banging on about. Amongst these friends are my three faithful J’s: Jana Volf, Janine Chilcott and Jan Thomas. I have also benefitted from the advice and feedback of Yifawn Lee, who has published this rewrite of my 2015 book, The Art of Understanding Art: A New Perspective (London: Profile Books). I remain grateful to family members and friends who enrich my existence without, necessarily, getting involved, other than through their continuing support.
